What does the word jelly mean?

Jelly comes from the Old French gelee, “jelly” and also “frost,” from the verb geler, “to congeal,” with its Latin root gelare, “to freeze.” – Vocabulary

What was the first flavor of jelly?

In 1976 the first eight Jelly Belly flavors were born: Very Cherry, Lemon, Cream Soda, Tangerine, Green Apple, Root Beer, Grape, and Licorice. Funny enough they are still some of the most popular flavors made. – Jelly Belly
